The obligatory ‘Welcome to Our Canberra’ post.

(3|0) submitted 25 June 2013 by michael to OurCanberra | 12 comments

Hi and welcome to Our Canberra, please say hi by commenting below! I'm Michael, the founder and here's a brief introduction to the community.

What you're looking at is my experiment in creating a truly free, open and democratic community - where even my position in the community, will eventually be up for election.

Soft launch - 26th June 2013

I've launched Our Canberra today as a "soft launch", so have a look around, post content, join discussion and take part in the community…

... just don't get upset if a few things aren't quite right here. I've built this site from the ground up and there's still a few solid weeks or work, testing and more testing to do before I'm ready to open the flood gates (we're working on a territory wide advertising campaign).

Found something broken, have a suggestion?

Please let me know by commenting below!

A note about display issues

At the 11th hour, I decided to implement a brand new display framework. So you'll find a few display glitches, such as content not lining up correctly and a few other oddities. Don't worry too much about them, I'm aware, my priority at the moment is ensuring features such as posting content, commenting, etc are all working smoothly.

Once the most important features are implemented and fully tested, I'll iron out all the little oddities.

Root level comments are indented incorrectly.

@FIXME: Voting on comments isn’t working.

The entire comments system needs to be re-done. It’s a mess of spaghetti code as I didn’t’ sit down and plan how to implement it properly. I plan to spend the entire weekend re-implementing it properly.

@FIXME: All post author boxes are hard-coded to display my information.

Semi fixed. There’s still hardcoded information being displayed that needs to be resolved.

    How do you submit something?

Go into a specific community, e.g. /c/chit-chat and you’ll see on the right a “Quick Submit” tool that you can use. I’ve got a cleaner implementation of this working on the development site that I’ll be pushing live to this site shortly.
